This trip allows you to get the opportunity to explore Johannesburg and learn more about the history and different cultures of South Africans as well as to experience a true African safari in one of Africa's largest game reserves that is a popular tourist destination and home to the Big 5. Each day you will encounter an experience of culture and history. During our tour to Soweto, we will visit Mandela House, Hector Pieterson, a tour of Vilakazi, and on our way for drop-off we will drive past Kliptown. The itinerary follows with a cultural experience to Lesedi Cultural, we will learn about different cultures of South Africa and enjoy a traditional meal and dance. We later proceed to Kruger National Park for a safari experience and to spot Africa Big5 in an open 4x4 vehicle and overnight at a 4-star lodge.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Soweto and Apartheid
Museum Day Tour
You will be collected from your accommodation in Johannesburg or any requested place in Johannesburg at 09:00 am to start your Soweto and Apartheid Museum day tour. We will drive past the famous FNB Stadium (aka Soccer City) where the 2010 world cup opening and closing ceremonies were held. We will then drive past Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and Bara Taxi Rank and proceed to Kliptown, which is now known as Pimville where the Freedom Charter was written. Thereafter, we will drive to the famous Vilakazi Street and see the homes of the icons Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu and stop at the Hector Pieterson Museum which is located just a few minutes away from where the student Hector was shot and killed during the June 16 march. Enjoy an African cuisine at one of the restaurants on Vilakazi Street, thereafter we will proceed to the Apartheid Museum which will highlight the visit to Soweto today. At the Apartheid Museum, you will learn more about the apartheid era and the roles several icons played. After this day tour, you will be dropped off at your accommodation in Johannesburg or a restaurant of your choice for dinner.
Day 2: Lesedi Cultural Village Day Tour
Today, you will be collected from your accommodation at 09:00 am to start your cultural day tour at the Lesedi Cultural Village. In the village, you will visit each cultural tribe and learn more about the tribe including history. Enjoy traditional music and fascinating stories told and join in on the dancing. There will also be beating of drums and singing that take place for your entertainment. You will enjoy a feast at the restaurant on-site that has a variety of African dishes that include crocodile and ostrich and optional vegetarian dishes prepared in traditional style. After this feast and entertainment here at the village, your private driver-guide will drop you off at your accommodation in Johannesburg. Rest of your afternoon at leisure.
Day 3: Johannesburg to Kruger National Park
Prepare for an early morning check-out and collection of 06:30 am from your accommodation in Johannesburg. Your private driver-guide will transfer you to the Kruger for your safari stay. This will be an approximate 5-6 hour drive with stops in between. Upon arrival, you will check-in at a 4-star safari lodge. Enjoy lunch and get settled in your room. Optional afternoon game drive in the concession with a chance to spot some of the Big 5 and other wildlife.
Day 4: Morning and Afternoon Game Drives
You will get an early morning wake-up call to prepare for your morning tea/coffee then depart for your morning game drive. Enjoy this game drive and get to watch the sunrise as you soak in the quiet and calmness of nature and the amazing wildlife and birdlife.
You will return in time for a delicious breakfast and enjoy leisure time in your rooms or in the pool area. Lunch will be served and thereafter, you can depart on the afternoon game drive. Upon your return, enjoy dinner and the rest of your evening.
Day 5: Check out and return to Johannesburg
As you will be checking out, you will have an option to join the morning game drive and see more wildlife, and possibly tick off your must-sees. Return for breakfast and freshen up. You will check out and your private driver-guide will transfer you back to Johannesburg. Enjoy the scenery along the way and upon your arrival in Johannesburg, your driver-guide will drop you off at your requested drop-off location.
