Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Meet your guide in Arusha after a separately arranged international arrival and travel towards the Ngorongoro highlands. The route climbs from warmer plains into farming country and cooler air. Settle into your highlands lodge for the first night, with a briefing on the crater descent and the longer Serengeti journey ahead.

2

Descend into the crater during permitted hours with a packed lunch. Explore the grassland and marsh edges for buffalo, zebra, lion and, with luck, black rhino; lake birdlife varies with conditions. Ascend after the included crater visit and return to the highlands for a second night, rather than rushing straight into another long drive.

3

Drive through the conservation area towards the central Serengeti, allowing time for formalities at the park entrance. An optional heritage stop can be arranged in advance. The afternoon becomes a game drive as you approach Serengeti Sopa Lodge or the agreed equivalent, your base for the next three nights.

4

Leave early to explore central Serengeti habitats, from wooded drainage lines to open grassland and granite outcrops. Your guide follows current wildlife activity rather than promising migration herds in every season. Return for lunch or take a picnic for a longer outing, then spend the late afternoon watching the plains change colour.

With another day in the same area, you can revisit a promising sighting or explore farther afield without changing camps. Search for resident lion and cheetah in the cool hours, while birds and smaller mammals reward the intervals between larger sightings. A balloon flight may be arranged at extra cost, subject to availability and weather.

6

Enjoy a short final drive if the scheduled departure permits, then transfer to the central Serengeti airstrip. The included light-aircraft flight returns to Arusha, avoiding a full day of retracing the road route. International flights or an optional Zanzibar extension require separately arranged connections and appropriate transfer time.
