Pilanesberg National Park is located North West of South Africa bordering Sun City Resort. The park is 50 000 hectares and is set within the crater volcano remains. The park is rugged on the landscape, water valleys and attractive dwelling sites that made it a preferred area for human settlement over a thousand years. The Bakgatla- ba- Kgafela tribe was the original owners of the Northern area as the Southern area was set by local farmers during 1860, however, the local farmers were responsible for the Mankwe Dam within the reserve. Pilanesberg is named after "Pilane" Tswana chief.
